The  complexion of this race changed when the first caution flew during final green flag pit stops. A number of cautions followed on the ensuing restarts extended the race well past it's scheduled number of laps. Different leaders had to pit on each of the 3 Green/White/Checkers due to fuel concerns. This gave cars in the two big wrecks a chance to get back to the front. Buchanan grabbed the checkers with Lee and Cobb getting top points out of the Chase drivers. Three more drivers will be eliminated next week at Kansas before the finale at Charlotte. 

Rob Partridge took the win and the lead in the point standings, but this race was far from a certain win. Several drivers wisely took one of their 4 sets of tires under caution with 45 laps to go. A final caution with 5 to go left 7 drivers on the lead lap to go for the win on a Green/White/Checker. As Partridge slid past Jesse Fahrenkrog in turn 2, a spin mid-pack ended the night of fun at Richmond.
