The opening race of the Fall Cup season was at tricky and fast Atlanta. Yates took the pole and got surprised on lap 7 when the leader's ignition dropped. The wreck tore up top 5 qualifiers Richards and Partridge. After a few cautions and some alternate tire strategies, a long run to finish the race demonstrated that Scarboro and Williamson had a superior package of pit road changes. A fierce battle for second created a gap and Scarboro drove off to the win while Williamson overcame an early incident in the tri-oval and powered home second.
